On November 19, 2007, the Governor signed into law Senate Bill 79 which then became Public Act 143 of 2007. The bill amended the Michigan Vehicle Code (MCL 257.223) to delete a requirement that a vehicle owner, upon receiving a registration certificate, sign the certificate with pen and ink in the space provided. A violation of this requirement was a civil infraction. The law went into effect on November 19, 2007.
