Green Light:Green Light: Lubbock, Texas - A Lubbock woman is speaking about a terrifying accident after she blacked out and
drive her car into a playa lake. Police and EMS found her SUV, with the woman inside, in the middle of the lake.
They realized the car was quickly sinking and jumped into action. They smashed a window and swam her back
to the shore. She has publicly thanked the man who saved her life. “I am very blessed to know that he was very
nearby, that he was trained to perform this, and that obviously he is a very brave and courageous person that he didn’t hesitate and my entire family...we just have a huge debt of gratitude to you and we will always have a special
place in our heart for him.” http://everythinglubbock.com – April 6, 2009.
Green Light: North Platte, Nebraska - A 6-year-old boy grabbed the wheel of his family’s pickup truck when his
father passed out from low blood sugar, keeping the vehicle from crashing until an officer could bring it to a halt,
police said. The boy was in the back seat with his 3-year-old brother when his father slumped over at the wheel, he
told police. He leapt into his father’s lap so he could steer and see out the windshield. His father’s foot had slipped
off the accelerator, but even at idle the Chevrolet Avalanche was going an estimated 10-15 mph, police said. The kindergartner steered the truck several blocks, even turning around when he entered a neighborhood he didn’t
recognize, until he was spotted by police. A North Platte police officer ran up to the moving pickup, reached through
an open window and rammed the gearshift into park. Police Chief Martin Gutschenritter praised his officer and the
boy. “I will be issuing him a departmental citation for his quick, professional action on this case. That is also a very
special young man. He was able to take quick action when his dad was incapacitated, and we are very proud of
him, too,” Gutschenritter said. Associated Press – May 23, 2009
